Shay & Partners and CTBC Bank of Taiwan to present at the next 2015 Globalaw Asia Pacific Meeting
Following the success of last year’s Asia Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) hosted by Shay & Partners in Taipei, Taiwan, the CTBC Bank, one of the major financial consortiums in Taiwan, decided to participate with the firm in a joint presentation during the client-facing seminar at the upcoming APRM. This year’s Asia Pacific Meeting will be hosted by Chuo Sogo Law Office the 23-25 April 2015 in Tokyo, Japan.
CTBC Bank of Taiwan together with Shay & Partners will present to Globalaw delegates from around the globe and an audience of 200+ Japanese industry players, the “Globalaw success story from a global perspective”.
The Bank has recently entered into a memorandum with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and built up an alliance with more than 20 local banks in Japan. This has led to a further expansion of its momentum and operation coverage in the Asia Pacific region including Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.
Huth Dietrich Hahn hosted a Globalaw Business Meeting on Estate Planning under the new European Succession Regulation
Recently, Hamburg based Globalaw member Huth Dietrich Hahn organized a Globalaw Seminar to discuss the chances and risks of the new European Succession Regulation. Martin Wolff welcomed the 40 + clients and speakers who attended the Meeting.
Werner Jahnel of Lalive, Zurich, gave an overview on the Swiss position and Swiss inheritance law. He explained that Swiss residents might also be well advised to include a choice of law clause in their last wills even if Switzerland is not a Member State of the EU. Former Globalaw president Michael Hatchwell of Gordon Dadds outlined specific aspects of English inheritance and inheritance tax law. He discussed the effects of the EU Regulation in English inheritance law. Iñaki Armendia of BSK Legal and Fiscal explained the Spanish perspective, which is of particular interest to Germany regarding the relatively large number of German citizens who move to Spain at the pension age.
“Partners’ Exchange Program”: Jackson Walker LLP visits Almeida Advogados in Brazil
Brazilian Globalaw firm Almeida Advogados launched a “Partners’ Exchange Program” offering the possibility to a partner of a guest Globalaw firm to join the Almeida Advogados office in São Paulo for one to two weeks. The purpose of the program is to reinforce the professional synergies between Almeida Advogados and the guest foreign law firm. Last November, the Brazilian firm had the pleasure to welcome Carlos R. Treviño, Senior Counsel of Jackson Walker L.L.P.
Joint actions were promoted by both firms, including a networking breakfast during which Carlos did a presentation on: “Prospects for 2015: The Scenario of Cooperation and Investment with the United States”. Numerous clients and business contacts of Almeida Advogados attended the event, from various sectors such as industry, real estate, insurance, retail, law offices and consulting firms.
During his stay in São Paulo, the partner had the opportunity to meet with some clients of Almeida Advogados, to have a better understanding of the business abroad.
